Director’s Statement

This film doesn’t try to answer the societal questions and culture war issues regarding gender identity. Rather, this film offers an exploration of a more intimate question: How do imperfect people stumble through it when it’s part of their own lives?

Most families who face gender identity differences have to navigate anger, love, confusion, grief, understanding, misunderstanding, shame, doubt, worry, and more. Most get things wrong. Most make mistakes with their words and their actions. And most - even the ones doing shitty things - come from a place of love. That is what this film reflects: A portrait of how love paves the difficult journey from denial and rejection to change and acceptance.

All of the societal issues take a back seat to learning how to love your kid for who they are and becoming the parent that they need you to be. Because as individuals and families change, society will follow.
